Bookworms do school proud!

YOUNG book worms from Scissett Middle School have done Kirklees proud at the Yorkshire round of a national literary quiz.

Two teams of eight pupils from the school competed in the Children’s Lit Quiz with Scissett team A – Heather Marsden, Amy Cheetham, Olivia Foster and Robert Parry, all keen members of Scissett Middle’s Book Group – coming home in third position..

The quiz comprised ten rounds of ten questions and 31 teams took part . Awards were given for the team that won each round, in between there were ‘pound questions’ where the children could win one pound by answering a question about literature.

The team had come in joint third place along with another school, but won the tie-breaker and accepted their award of a national book voucher.

The performance was the best ever by any middle school in Kirklees.

The team also won a number of individual rounds and each pupil received a book.

Team B, which consisted of Christina Shires, Charlotte Moore, Caleb Wright and Joe Robinson, didn’t do quite as well but still won some books, had a great time and finished in 13th place.

Musical entertainment during the event was provided by musicians from Scissett Middle School and contributed to an enjoyable afternoon for everyone.
