HOLMFIRTH

Holmfirth Christian Centre's Sunday service started with praise and worship led by Elyjoy and the team, the theme being that of God's love and if we had nothing we would still have God. Ian Sharland spoke God's word titled Where is your treasure' is your trust and faith in material possessions or is it in God,the need to listen to God too get heavenly wisdom, also achieved by reading His word.Readings taken from old and new testaments, Matthew 6:19-21 read from the Message Bible.

The Explorers children’s group, was led by Kathryn Jackson titled: Having to wait for God to answer our prayers. Reading from scripture and asking questions the message was put across by getting some buns out and making the children wait until they could have one. This illustrated you may not always get what you want and when you want sometimes the wait can be a long one. The children then decorated them and ate them.

Friday lunch was a treat for all Vision Plus (over 50 group) members. After the lunch, of beef stew and herb scones with potatoes and vegetables, prepared by Diane Finch, the group had guest speakers, Herbert and Marjorie Cooper from Lawton Community Church. "It was a great afternoon and really inspired the group," said a spokeswoman.

Wednesday evening started with praise and worship and then got down to looking at the scriptures with truly God-inspired teaching that was on fire with the Holy Spirit. This was followed by coffee and tea.

The Third Sunday of Lent was celebrated at Holy Trinity with Parish Eucharist, the Rev Keith Griffin presiding. He was assisted with the chalice by Carlton Tinsdeall. Sue Winter read from Exodus and Brian Shaw led the intercessions. Keith spoke about the ten commandments being the covenant between God and his people - our relationship to him. The commandments were given to the children of Israel to enable them to live in an ordered society. The Annual Meeting was held after the service and Sue Styring and Elizabeth Sheard served coffee. This Sunday the Family Service will start at 10.30.

HONLEY

Family communion at St Mary's Church was conducted by the Rev David Barnes. Andrew Dean read the lesson and intercessions were led by Pat and Cliff Green. On Sunday afternoon, the Rev David Barnes baptised Jessica Louise Martindale, the daughter of Emma and Liam; and Maisie Kate Grove, the daughter of Victoria and Nicholas. Pat Green read the lesson and the organist for the day was Vernon Briggs.

A Lent course on Transforming Lives was held in the parish room. Lent lunches were served by ladies of Trinity and St Mary's churches. Donations for luncheon will go to Honley Aid in Sickness charity.

NETHERTHONG

Friday afternoon coffee was served at the home of Chris and Bob Whitehead to raise £123 for the Mothers' Union in Mara.

Parish Eucharist on Sunday at All Saints’ Church was celebrated by the Rev Geoff Bank. He was assisted by Martin Woodhead, who also led intercessions. The readers were Brenda Brown and Kathryn Hardy. The organist was Geoffrey Byram.

UPPERTHONG

Midweek communion at St John's Church was conducted by the Rev Geoff Banks. Lunch followed in the meeting room.

Family communion at St Jon's Church was led by the Rev Geoff Bamford, who read the gospel, preached the sermon and was celebrant. Hilary Roberts was the reader and Ray Thompson assisted with the chalice. The organist was Ian Greenhalgh. During the service, the Rev Geoff Bamford baptised Olivia Jane Kaye. Refreshments were served afterwards by Hilary Roberts.

WOOLDALE

Morning worship at the Methodist Church was led by the Rev Charlotte Lorimer. The organist was Hazel Booth.
