PRIMARY schools across Kirklees were today studying the achievements of their oldest pupils in government tests.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families released results for last summer’s key stage two National Curriculum tests.
Children in year six, who are ten and 11, are tested in maths, English and science in May each year.
In Kirklees, the performance of thousands of children left the area just one point below the national average for test results.
About half the schools saw their figures improve but the others slipped back in the rankings.
The test results saw the average score per school in Kirklees rise from 243 to 245, while the national average went up from 245 to 248.
The three top-performing schools in Kirklees were Crowlees CE JI School, Mirfield, Hopton Primary School, Mirfield, and St Peter’s CE JIN School, Batley. Each averaged 300 points over the tests.
It was a great result for staff and children at the Hopton school, who just three years ago were in special measures.
The three worst-performing schools in the tests were all in Huddersfield. They were Christ Church Woodhouse C of E, Deighton (average 141), Ashbrow Junior School, Sheepridge,(170) and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School, Sheepridge (180).
