Crimewatch: Valley police target valley ‘hot spots’

POLICE NEWS UPDATE: Local priorities in the valley Neighbourhood Watch area are: to cut the number of speeding vehicles in the Golcar area working in partnership with local schools using education and enforcement.

Anti-social behaviour– to reduce yobbism in Milnsbridge centre, particularly at Commercial Mills, Savile Street.

VEHICLE CRIME: A Pcso on foot sighted a male in a stolen motor vehicle in the Golcar area. After an area search the vehicle was found nearby and recovered The male in question was arrested by NPT officers for theft of a vehicle.

LOOKING AFTER NEIGHBOURS: The public are reminded to be mindful of any vulnerable neighbours in their area. Should you have suspicions about any such activities then please contact the police. This can be done anonymously at Crimestoppers 0800555111. Valleys NPT can be contacted on 01484 436726.

CANNABIS FACTORY ARREST: Officers from the Valleys NPT executed a search warrant under the misuse of Drugs act at an address in Milnsbridge last Saturday. A small quantity of cannabis plants were found at the address and a local man was arrested in connection with its production. Police are working hard to eradicate this problem from our communities and have some excellent results over the past few months in disrupting the illegal activities of drugs suppliers. However they still need the local communities help in identifying premises which are being used to grow cannabis. They urge anyone with information about this to contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Team on the number below or alternatively contact Crimestoppers.

Criminal Damage: There were five incidents of criminal damage recorded in the Golcar area last week. Officers are continuing their inquiries. One arrest has been made in the Cowlersley area.

Burglary: There have been two reports of house burglaries in the area – the first being in Longwood, through a cellar door but nothing stolen, and the second, in Cowersley, where two motorcycles were taken from a garage. CAR THEFT: Golcar. Tools taken from a vehicle with insecure doors. Police urge motorists to always make sure vehicles are locked and secure. Meanwhile the Valleys NPTs are continuing with their ‘high visibility’ patrols in the area

If owners of vehicles/vans could be mindful and remove all items of value from view and out of your vehicles, also consider leaving your glove box open to show the contents.
