Mrs Jo Rand led worship at the Methodist Church when the readers were Mr and Mrs Paul and Janet Grant, Mrs Jan Gaunt and Mrs Margaret Miller. The pianist was Mrs Muriel Bennett.
Family communion at St George’s Church was celebrated by the Rev David Barnes. Kate Drake read the lesson and Elizabeth Mosley was the server. Verena Wood played the organ.
HEPWORTH
Preparations are well underway for the annual Hepworth Feast. The event is being held on Monday June 29 and has been organised by the Hepworth School Feast Committee. The procession leaves the school at 2pm with the route taking in the villages of Hepworth, Scholes and Jackson Bridge. There will be a public tea during the afternoon followed by a united sing with Hepworth Brass Band at 6.30pm in the recreation ground. This will be followed by school sports.
HOLMBRIDGE
Ian Gold chaired a meeting of St David’s parochial church council. Midweek communion at the church was conducted by the Rev Geoff Bamford, when Ian Gold read the lesson. Meetings of the Monkey Business group and Over 60s CLub were held during the week. The Rev Geoff Bamford led Friday evening prayers.
Parish Eucharist at St David’s Church was conducted by the Rev Geoff Bamford when lessons were read by Ben and Helen Cooper. Thelma Nelson led intercessions and the chalice was administered by Helena Woods. The creche and junior church were led by Dale and Helen Woods and the organist was Eddie Purcell. During the afternoon, a meeting of the gathering for nine to 14-year-olds was led by Mike Smithers, Carolyn Burley and John Burdon.
HOLMFIRTH
Trinity Sunday was celebrated at Holy Trinity with 10.30 Parish Eucharist. The celebrant was the Rev Keith Griffin and he was assisted with the chalice by Brian Shaw who also led the Intercessions. Neil Sykes read from Isaiah 6 v1-8. The choir sang God So Love the World (Stainer). The Children’s Club met in the Gallery Room and explored the Trinity. Sue Strying and Alison Kitch served coffee after the service. This Sunday there will be a Gallery Room Service at 10.30 – all welcome.
Holmfirth Christian Centre sang songs of praise and worship to celebrate the greatness and goodness of God on Sunday morning, led by Elyjoy and Pastor Ian Gooch, supported by Penny Price. The bible reading was from Ephesians read by Becky Gooch. Pastor Ian Gooch delivered a powerful message from God titled 'The base ingredients for a stronger faith walk' looking at the first ingredient being the Word of God, the Bible. He reminding us that if we read our bibles every day and meditate on the words they will, nourish us, build our faith, bring hope and build our character. Xplorers, led by Becky Gooch looked at the story of Jonah, in the Old Testament, and how he disobeyed God and the consequence of doing so. They made diamond- shape pictures with Jonah on one side and a whale on the other, so that when they folded it over it was a whale with Jonah inside him! Wednesday was a chance to invite friends along to church for Burger and a Buddy. The evening ended with Elyjoy singing, Carole Paxman being interviewed about what her life was like before and after knowing Jesus and a short clip showing how all things are possible when you have God on your side.
HONLEY
New member Gordon Senior was welcomed to a meeting of the Probus CLub when chairman Malcolm Dove introduced Don Metcalfe, who was making a return visit to give a talk on the Fire and Restoration of Windsor Castle. The fire in 1992 and resulting restoration - at a cost of £35m - were described in great detail before Mr Metcalfe answered a number of questions from the audience. Keith Smith proposed the vote of thanks.
Family communion at St Mary’s Church was celebrated by the Rev David Barnes. Shirley Turner read the lesson and intercessions were led by Anne and Godfrey Blount. Music for the service was provided by the music group.
St Mary's Mothers’ Union hosted a Quiet Evening for branches throughout the Almondbury Deanery. Brenda Wildman led the evening and the Rev Douglas Garside gave an address. The readers were Margaret Hay, Alison Dean and Margaret Wainwright. Pat Green led intercessions and the pianist was Jean Chadwick. Refreshments after the service were served by Jean Swann and helpers.
MELTHAM
Meltham WI held their meeting on June 2 and this was chaired by the President Ann Dick. The tea ladies for the evening were Ann Kaye and Jean Swallow. It was announced that the Coffee Morning held in May made a profit of £230 and thanks were given to all who helped to make it a success. The speaker for the evening was Pat Alkar and her subject was Ethiopia Fund Raising Visit. She was dressed in traditional clothes and showed photographs of the country and how they lived. They export coffee beans and English is widely spoken. This was a very interesting talk and enjoyed by all the members. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sheila Brook.The raffle organised by Ruth Hutson was won by Carol Tinker.
UPPERTHONG
Midweek communion at St John’s Church was led by the Rev Di Ellerton. Lunch followed in the meeting room.
Early communion at St John’s Church was conducted by the Rev Di Ellerton, who also led the all-age family service. The reader was Diana Stockford and Ray Thompson led prayers. Adam Greenhalgh was the organist. Coffee and biscuits were served by Hilary Roberts following the service.
WOOLDALE
The service on Sunday at Wooldale Methodist Free Church was led by Mrs Janet Blackshaw, Mrs Margaret Tinker and Mrs Wendy Bower. The theme of the service was Love and Janet talked of loving those we really find it hard to do so. The readings from Naomi and Ruth and of the Good Shepherd were by Margaret Tinker and Margaret Hill. Wendy talked of those who have gone before us who also showed us love and taught us how to love others. Coffee followed the service and the organist was Peter Coldwell.
Family worship at the Methodist Church was led by Robert Booth when the organist was Sue Ogden. Coffee and biscuits were served afterwards.
