BIRDSEDGE
The Hall Committee hosted with Denby Dale Travellers Running Club’s 6 mile Birdsedge Challenge Race on Sunday. Excellent weather made for a good turn out. While the runners were away the committee served refreshments to families and friends waiting their return. The winner was Luke Field, Rotherham Harriers, in 35minutes 37 seconds. Second was Ricky South of Holmfirth Harriers and third Stephen Robinson of Meltham AC. The winning lady was Jacqui Dews of Holmfirth Harriers. (See Page 13 for full results and pictures).
The Birdsedge Hospice Support Group will be holding a Coffee Morning in the Village Hall on Saturday July 25 , 10.30 – 12.30.
The Sunday School Anniversary Worship was taken by the Junior Church. They had chosen the hymns, written the prayers, handed out quizzes and made and presented two power point items by Andrew and Amy. The readings were from John –‘For God so loved the world that he sent his one and only Son – from Genesis –Cain and Abel: ‘Would you do that to your brother?" and Matthew – The Wise and Foolish Builders. The service was followed by a barbecue. Next week’s Family Service will be taken by Glyn Ellis.
CLAYTON WEST
The afternoon fellowship met last Tuesday at the Methodist Church. Margaret Firth introduced the speaker Jean Heath, who led our thoughts about the world and all that changes our lives, including disasters. Tea and biscuits were served afterwards.
Morning Sunday worship was led by Les Barber who spoke about changes in the Church and our lives, and in our discipleship. Rosalyn Beevers read a lesson from Matthew and Joan Bond one from Romans. Stewards were Diana Hunt and Joan Bond, the organist was Jane Hobson. Flowers for the communion table were given by Wendy Barber, who also served coffee after the service.
DENBY DALE
On Tuesday afternoon at the Zion Wesleyan Reform Chapel the church pastor Robert Nuttall held an afternoon tea to celebrate his birthday and raised £120 for the Christian African Relief Trust. The Sunday School met on Sunday Morning and continued stories and activities connected with King David. Robert Nuttall was the preacher at the evening service when he spoke about God's plans for everyone. The service included Holy Communion. The steward was Carol Mosley. On Saturday July 11 there will be a Coffee Day and Bring and Buy Sale from 2pm to 5pm. The event will include a raffle and all proceeds are for Breast Cancer Care.
