Child centres planned for Flockton and Wooldale

ONE of five new children’s centres is set to be built in Wooldale.

Last month Kirklees Council approved a £2.5m budget over the next three years for centres in the more affluent parts of Kirklees.

Poorer areas of Kirklees had already been given the centres over the last five years.

If given the go-ahead the new-build centre will be constructed behind the existing Wooldale Community Centre on Robert Lane.

The building currently houses Wooldale and Kirkroyds pre-schools.

The land is already owned by Kirklees Council and is not in the conservation area.

A new centre is also planned for Upper Whitley Junior and Infants in Flockton and centres will be set up in existing buildings at Lindley Methodist Chapel, Old Bank Junior and Infants in Mirfield and High Bank First and Nursery School in Liversedge.

The centres provide education, healthcare and parenting advice under one roof.

The building is planned to house two members of staff in an office and include a consultation room that could be used by health professionals that would allow parents to avoid travelling to Holmfirth hospital or further.

A multi-use area that could be used for stay and play activities or training and a fenced outdoor play area will be provided and the community centre car park will also be resurfaced.
