BROCKHOLES

Parish communion for All Saints’ Day at St George’s Church was celebrated by the Rev David Barnes. He was assisted by the server, Roger Kenworthy. Mr Stephen Dufton read from the Book of Daniel and the Book of Ephesians. In his sermon, the vicar asked the question: What Makes a Saint? Mr and Mrs Warton were the sidespeople and the organist was Verena Wood.

Worship at the Methodist Church was led by Mr Trevor Jones. The organist was Mr Robert Booth.

HEPWORTH

Parish Eucharist was celebrated by the Rev Keith Griffin at Holy Trinity Church, Hepworth, on Sunday morning. Prayers were led by Lorraine Pollitt, the reader was Richard South and the organist was Jane Robertson. Sunday School was led by Chris Fletcher and refreshments were served after the service by Val Osborne. A demonstration by the well-known watercolour artist, Geoff Kersey, was held in the village hall on Wednesday afternoon. Organised by Hepworth Art Group, the event attracted a large number of people.

HOLMBRIDGE

Members of Three’s Company enjoyed a harvest quiz and light refreshments organised by Carolyn Burley.

The Camera Club met for a Wit and Humour competition, which was won by Chris Newsome.

Midweek communion at St David’s Church was conducted by the Rev Geoff Bamford. Ian Gold read the lessons. Friday evening prayers were led by Carolyn Burley.

Parish Eucharist at St David’s Church was celebrated by the Rev Nick Heaton when lessons were read by Glenys McGuire and the Rev Geoff Bamford, who also led intercessions. Ian Gold administered the chalice and the creche and junior church were led by Elizabeth Bounds. The organist was Eddie Purcell.

MELTHAM

The men in Green Jackets (New Mill Male Voice Choir) are performing in Meltham Parish Church on Saturday November 13.Š They will be joined by local soprano Stephanie Ball (formerly Helliwell) for this special concert which will be one of their last with current musical director Elizabeth Hambleton, as she steps down at the end of the year.Š Tickets are available from Scotty’s Barbers in the village or you can pay on the door.Š Adults £6 and Students/U16 £4.Š The concert starts at 7.30pm.

SCHOLES

A Gift Day and the chapel anniversary was celebrated at Scholes Methodist Church last Sunday. The congregation were welcomed by June Snow as door steward and the readings were delivered by Barbara Horn . Church-goers were pleased to welcome an old scholar the Rev Bruce Deakin to lead both the morning and afternoon service . Items were sung by the choir conducted by Christine Lockwood and the organist was Julia Noble.ŠŠ Betty and Eric Chilvers received the gift boxes from the congregation and coffee was served by Dougie Brodie and Hilaryand Roger Deakin. The congregation were reminded of the Bicentennial Service tomorrow (Sunday Nov 7) at Holmfirth Civic HallŠ led by the president of conference the Rev Alison Tomlin and the November Fayre at the chapel on Saturday November 13.

UPPERTHONG

The Tuesday prayer breakfast was held at the home of the Dawsons. Midweek communion at St John’s Church was led by Dean Henry Stapleton. Lunch followed in the meeting room.

Members of St John’s Church attended a joint service for All Saints’ Sunday at Netherthong Church. The Rev Nick Heaton led the service and was the celebrant. The Rev Di Ellerton assisted with the chalice and refreshments were served afterwards.

WOOLDALE

Worship at the Methodist Church on Sunday was conducted by the Rev Laura Hardy. The organist was Nigel Morris.
