WIND turbine opponents in Denby Dale have been formally backed by their MP.
Campaigners from Common People Against Turbines (CPAT) are fighting plans for a 39 metre high turbine at Dry Hill Lane.
Last week Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell, who had already spoken out against the proposal, submitted a formal letter of objection to the plan by V G Energy to Kirklees Council.
In a letter to the chief executive of Kirklees Council, he said: “I have met with local residents about this proposal. They are not at all happy with it.
“They believe that it would significantly impact on the quality of the landscape and that it is far too close to local properties and housing.
“They also believe, as do I, that at 39 metres high it is disproportionately large.
“On the basis that it has almost no support amongst the local population I would urge the council to reject this application.”
Mr Reevell, who also opposed a similar plan in Grange Moor, said:“I don’t understand the need to build wind turbines so close to people’s properties.
“Local residents would be far more likely to support these kinds of developments if they were built in sensible locations, away from built up areas and thriving communities.
“Wind energy certainly has a role to play but developers need to be a bit smarter in how they go about their business.”
