HOLMFIRTH
Morning Worship at Holmfirth Methodist Church on Sunday was led by Marina Woodhead, assisted by Sally Robinson’s worship team. Each Sunday during Lent the congregation remembers a different event from the story of Jesus’ crucifixion by placing items on a specially made cross. So worship started by hanging on the Lenten Cross a bag representing the 30 pieces of silver for which Judas betrayed Jesus. In speaking to the children Marina reminded everyone how important it is for the church to speak to people in ordinary language and not in a religious jargon they don’t understand. She continued this theme after a dramatic reading of the story of Jesus talking to the Samaritan woman at her village well, and showed how Jesus used the act of drawing fresh water to illustrate for an ordinary woman how he brought new life. Marina concluded the service with a meditation based on Graham Sutherland’s painting of Jesus being placed in the tomb - The Deposition - from the Methodist Collection of Modern Christian Art. Join in any Thursday at 11am for the Shoppers’ Service, on Friday (during Lent) from 12.15 to 1.30pm for a soup and roll lunch, or visit the website – www.holmfirthmethodist.org.uk.
