TWO friends from the Holme Valley are embarking on a charity challenge.
Dave Armitage and Ian Davies, who now live in Cheshire, have organised a triathlon which takes its inspiration from TV’s popular Last of the Summer Wine.
Dave, who hails from Holme, and Ian, from Wooldale, have taken part in several triathlons and Iron Man events.
Said Dave: “There are not many triathlons in the Huddersfield area and we thought this would be a great opportunity to bring this up-and-coming sport into Holmfirth.
“The name was inspired by the TV series being filmed in Holmfirth and this event being one of the last triathlons of the summer season.
“We thought ‘Last of the Summer Tri’ would give local people the opportunity to try their fitness at this sport.”
About 100 entrants from all over the country will line up for the event, which comprises a 400-metre swim at Holmfirth swimming baths, a 19.4km bike ride around Holmfirth, New Mill and Honley and a 5km run.
The first event gets under way at 9pm on Sunday, with the whole competition expected to last about three hours.
