FESTIVAL of Light fans will be treated with extra entertainment this year.
The open air festival is one of Kirklees Council’s biggest successes, attracting thousands of revellers every year.
This year it will feature a majestic mix of rock music and daredevil airborne acrobatics from Argentinian/Spanish troupe Grupo Puja.
Kirklees Council has now announced that the spectacle at St George’s Square will not be the only performance.
This year, the three-day event will be boosted by an open-air stage at the foot of King Street featuring a host of top local rock, pop and hip-hop bands.
Bands set to play live include hip hop group Extra Curricular, jazz funk crew Haggis Horns, groove collective Nu Popes, blues three-piece Crosscut Saw, sci-fi folk stars Maia, and indie bands the Sons of Mischief and Leo Brazil and his Twitch.
The addition of live music has come after key players in Huddersfield’s thriving music scene approached the council with a number of ideas to boost local bars and businesses.
Lee Alderman, from King Street venue Zephyr, said promoters had been keen to link up with the council after festival crowds grew year on year.
He said: “Huddersfield has had a number of talented bands for some time now and it is fantastic for the town to start providing platforms for them to really show what’s out there and to get more people involved in live music.
