A MASSIVE free event will be a major boost to Huddersfield.

That’s the view of Kirklees Council leader Clr Mehboob Khan, as he heralded the launch of Festival of Light 2011.

Many thousands are expected to pack the town centre tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday for a variety of spectacular events and features.

St George’s Square will host the main event, an aerial show by Argentinian group Grupo Puja!, but there are also events and features planned for the Art Gallery, The Piazza, Market Place, Byram Arcade and St Peter’s Gardens.

Clr Khan said: “We are looking forward to another busy weekend in Huddersfield as we welcome visitors from the local area, Yorkshire and beyond to the Festival of Light.

“This unique, free event is something that the people of Kirklees can feel really proud of and I encourage everyone to come and enjoy this world-class festival experience.
