Fire crews from Brighouse and Elland were called out along with Halifax colleagues to deal with a fire at the Halifax Building Society’s headquarters in Halifax early this morning.

Four fire engines attended the scene at 5.30am and eight officers wearing breathing apparatus entered the smoke-filled basement to douse a fire in an electrical sub station.

The crews were there for an hour. The cause of the fire is thought to be an electrical fault. There were no injuries
