A starving dog who was found shivering in the pouring rain in a muddy field has finally found a ‘furever’ home.

The wheat-coloured Lurcher, who was named Rain after the weather she was found in, had been rescued at Gildersome on a cold night in March.

Dog-lover Bianca Scollen and her family, having read about the pooch’s ordeal, visited her in a re-homing centre just days later.

Now the one-year-old, who is thought to have already had at least one litter of puppies, has been renamed Lola by her new owners.

Bianca, from Leeds, said: “We love her to bits. She has put on weight and the pressure sores and scars on her body have healed.

“She is loving her walks, likes to cuddle up on the sofa with us and is becoming really playful – she didn’t know how to play with toys at first which was so sad but she certainly does now and it is wonderful to see.

“She is understandably still a little nervous in certain situations but is growing in confidence each day and is an absolute delight.”

It’s thought that Lola had not been looked after for quite some time.

Amanda Sands, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Leeds, said: “The fact that she has recovered so well both physically and emotionally and is enjoying life thanks to Bianca, Craig and their daughter Dakota is just brilliant. We couldn’t have asked for a happier ending.”
