A toddler died from swine flu and an overdose of his mother's medication, an inquest heard this morning.

Sixteen-month-old Corbin Henry Littlewood took a fatal dose of his mother's iron tablets mistaking them for sweets.

The youngster had been given the pills by his toddler sister, who had obtained the medication from a high shelf in the bathroom by climbing on top of the sink.

After Corbin was admitted to hospital on March 21, 2013, doctors found the Holmfirth infant was suffering from swine flu.

Despite intensive efforts to save him, Corbin died three days later at Leeds General Infirmary.

Earlier today, coroner Mary Burke said it was impossible to tell whether Corbin had died from the overdose, swine flu or both.
