More than one in three of us will get cancer in our lifetime and as diagnosis and treatment improves, Macmillan’s challenge is growing all the time.

One man who truly believes in the fight for cancer is the New Director of External Relations and Marketing at Bradford Grammar School, Marc Silverside.

He wanted to mark his 10 year working anniversary as previous Director of Communications at Macmillan by taking on his biggest challenge yet – and hiking the breathtaking Inca Trail to Machu Picchu raising over £3,900 in the process.

He completed his physical training for the challenging trek using continuous swimming, regular spinning classes and 5-6 hour walks in the Yorkshire Three Peaks or Derbyshire, in and around Calderdale and up and down Scammonden Dam.

Today marks the beginning of a national 16 days of action around domestic abuse, including raising awareness of the issue, and encouraging reporting of offences.

West Yorkshire Police is supporting the days of action with its own campaign, focussing on the impact of domestic abuse on children who may witness, or be affected by, these offences.

Research has shown that children who suffer or witness domestic abuse may be more likely to become drug users, struggle with their education, suffer health issues, become involved in crime, and that they too may have abusive relationships themselves.

Don’t get caught out by this M62 closure like I did last Saturday.

Due to gantry demolition works the Eastbound carriageway between junctions 19 (Heywood) and 20 (Rochdale) has been closed on Saturday nights between 8pm and 6am. The last one is due this Saturday.

Last weekend I was driving back from Manchester Airport just before midnight when I hit tailbacks. We were delayed about an hour and had a lovely (not) detour via Rochdale.

Don’t say you weren’t warned.
