A warning has gone out about a town centre beggar dubbed Pound Man II

The Examiner reported earlier this month about an aggressive beggar who prowls supermarket car parks demanding £1 for his bus fare home.

The man, nicknamed Pound Man, was reported at supermarkets including Sainsbury’s at Shorehead in Huddersfield, Tesco Extra and Asda in Batley, Sainsbury’s in Dewsbury and Morrison’s in Heckmondwike.

Now another man has been spotted trying a similar scam – close to Dewsbury’s Poundland store.

Crime

A dangerous driver who led police on a high-speed chase for 30-miles around Calderdale has been told by top judges he cannot complain about his jail term.

Joshua Ian Nelson almost hit a cyclist and sped past traffic lights and give-way signs during the 38-minute spate of breakneck driving.

The 24-year-old didn’t even stop when his exhaust pipe fell off and kept going on flat tyres after police deployed a stinger device. He was finally halted in a roadblock in Elland.

Nelson thought his old Volvo wasn’t roadworthy so hadn’t bothered to get insurance for it.

Local News:

Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney has pledged to ensure that Armed Forces veterans will not have to battle blindness alone at a special parliamentary reception earlier this week, at the House of Commons.

The reception, held on Tuesday, was organised by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision impaired ex-Service men and women, to raise awareness of the charity.

Jason joined over 30 MPs and peers, including Mark Lancaster, Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans, Kevan Jones, Shadow Minister for the Armed Forces, and Clive Betts, chair of the Communities and Local Government Committee.

The call for support from local authorities comes after it was found that of the 4000+ veterans Blind Veterans UK currently supports, almost a quarter of these struggled with severe sight loss for six years or more before they found out about the support available from the Charity.
