A Dalton resident with arthritis has criticised Kirklees Council after binmen have ignored her bins for weeks.

Retired Marlene McFadden applied for the assisted bin collection scheme due to her condition, but claims both the binmen and complaints department have ignored her requests for help.

Traffic updates: Busy but moving traffic in both directions at Cooper Bridge in Mirfield. Wakefield Road is also busy at the Shorehead Roundabout and Oxford Street outbound busy but moving at Castlegate. There is also queueing traffic on A644 Brighouse Road in Hipperholme in both directions at A58 Halifax Road.

Missing person

A teenage girl from Huddersfield has been reported missing.

Police say they are concerned for the welfare of 16-year-old Kerry Townend after she was last seen at 7pm on Sunday, 10 April, in Lidget Street, Lindley.

She is described as white, 5ft 2ins tall, of slim build with shoulder-length blonde hair, which she sometimes wears up. She was last seen wearing light blue jeans and a zipped hooded top.

Anyone who has seen Kerry or with information about her whereabouts is asked to call Kirklees Safeguarding Unit via 101. Similarly, Kerry herself is urged to make contact to confirm she is safe and well.

There are reports of two lanes blocked and slow traffic due to a broken down vehicle on the M62 westbound between J27 M621 / A650 / A62 (Gildersome) and J26 M606 / A58 (Chain Bar). Lanes one and two (of four) are blocked on the smart motorway section affecting traffic from Leeds towards Huddersfield.

Police are investigating reports of a metal chair on the road on the M62 Eastbound between J22 Rishworth Moor and J24 Ainley Top.

Police are appealing for information after a suspect broke into a property in Holmfirth brandishing a screwdriver.

The male victim was at home in Netherthong at about 7pm yesterday with his three young children when a male suspect forced his way into their home carrying a screwdriver and demanding items to be handed over.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his late teens to early 20s, 6ft, with a local accent and wearing black clothing with his hood up and blue bike mask over his face.

DC Oliver Coates of Kirklees CID, said: “This was an extremely frightening experience for the victim and his young family and we are appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information about this suspect.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact me via 101 quoting reference 13160158217 or alternatively call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

In a further update, Highways England says two lanes are still closed and traffic is queuing following the multi-vehicle accident and fuel spillage on M1 Northbound between J42 M62 (Lofthouse) and J43 M621 (Belle Isle). Matrix sign set to 40 mph.

A Highways England spokeswoman has just told me that all lanes have re-opened on the M62 at Chain bar eastbound, following an earlier incident.

She said that a couple of vehicles had broken down on the stretch but that no one had been injured.

There is, however, still congestion.
