Patients of an inundated surgery have been told they can no longer book appointments in advance.


The Nook Surgery has suspended advanced bookings after patients were left waiting four weeks for an appointment with the practice’s only GP.


Instead patients have been queuing at the Salendine Nook practice in the morning in a manner described by one patient as ‘like a soup kitchen’.

The top read story on our website at the moment is the hunt for two men who fled the scene of a crash in Shepley this morning.


They ran off leaving an injured woman trapped in her vehicle.


According to Kirklees Rural police, a local Daihatsu milk van was “hit head on” by a Salford Van Hire vehicle at 1.35am at the Sovereign crossroads in Shepley.

There is disappointment among some Huddersfield Town fans after chairman Dean Hoyle’s revelation that the club won’t pursue the permanent signing of on-loan Wigan Athletic midfielder Emyr Huws.

The huge scale of Operation Bridge in Elland has been revealed - thanks to a high-tech drone.

Footage shot from the drone shows the mammoth task facing engineers working on the painstaking job of taking down the historic Elland Bridge which is being rebuilt after the Boxing Day floods caused catastrophic damage. You can see more with video here.

Yobs dug holes in three newly-prepared wickets at Holmfirth Cricket Club on Friday night, putting the following day’s opening Drakes Huddersfield League fixture in doubt.

Vandals ripped holes in three strips just at the point where the bowler would pitch the ball, aiming to cause maximum disruption. You can see more here.

Drivers are flouting a road closure on a notorious accident blackspot lane.

Kirklees Council contractors are half-way through safety works on Bellstring Lane/Liley Lane between Kirkheaton and Grange Moor.

The road was closed last Monday for two weeks but, despite warning signs and a clearly marked diversion, motorists are chancing their arm. You can see more here.

Detectives are appealing for information after bogus workmen targeted homeowners in Thornhill Lees, Dewsbury, and took almost £17,000.

The incidents took place between 23 March and 14 April, where the victim was approached by two suspects about some building work on his roof.

The suspects told the homeowner that they were carrying out work on other homes on the street, Morton Grove, in Thornhill Lees.

Over a month long period, the suspects asked the victim for several thousand pounds to complete the work, totalling at £16,960.

The first suspect is described as a white male, big build, 5ft 6”, with a Yorkshire accent and was wearing a woolly hat.

The second male is described as white, slim, around 23 - 24-years-old, missing upper teeth with long sandy coloured hair.

Det Con Andy Clayton, of Huddersfield CID, said: “We are appealing for information about these two suspects who have targeted this victim and taken a lot of money. We have advised the victim and his neighbours to be mindful when opening the door to strangers and to call the police if approached.”

Good morning. Some traffic news, with reports of an accident on the M62.



It had left the motorway partially blocked westbound between junctions 24 (Ainley Top) and 23 (Huddersfield).

But it looks like the carriageway has quickly been cleared so hopefully there won’t be many problems.

Three vehicles have been seized for having no insurance.

PC Rachel Storey and PCSO Samir Husetic of Dewsbury Neighbourhood Policing Team took the cars, which were also found to have “several defects and were deemed to be dangerous in condition.”

All three drivers now face court action after checks on their cars revealed that they did also not have a licence, an MOT or road tax.

A spokesperson for the police team said: “If you are not driving legally we will take your vehicle and report you.

“If you suspect there are more vehicles that fall into this category within your local area please contact 101 so that we can be made aware.

“Help us to keep our roads safe.”

There are delays and queueing traffic due to an earlier broken down vehicle on the M1 Southbound between J35 A629 (Rotherham / Chapeltown) and J34 A631 (Meadowhall).

CRIME

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to today’s blog.

Here’s a shocking story for you, although fortunately one that didn’t result in serious injuries.

Two vans collided head on at the Sovereign crossroads in Shepley this morning.

According to Kirklees Rural police, a local milkman was “hit head on” by a vehicle from Salford Van Hire at 1.35am.

But now police are trying to trace the driver of the hire van, who ran off, leaving the passenger of the milk van still trapped.

The passenger was taken to HRI for a check up, and thankfully had only minor injuries.

Investigations are ongoing.
