A “small but intense” storm is currently brewing over the M62. Take care on the road this rush hour, folks.

Slow traffic on A629 Calderdale Way Westbound between A6025 Halifax Road and A6026 Wakefield Road / B6112 Stainland Road. A629 Huddersfield Road outbound is busy but moving between A646 Dryclough Lane / Haigh Lane and A6026 Wakefield Road / B6112 Stainland Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered significant leg injuries trying to stop another man from stealing his car with his son inside.


The offence happened in Cleveland Road, Edgerton, at 7.30am on Monday, 30 May.


The victim, a 38-year-old man, and his 13-year-old son were in his white Toyota Avensis approaching the junction with Halifax Road when he has seen a man walking in the road.

After the victim beeped the horn to get the man’s attention, the man approached the vehicle and hit the rear offside quarter light window causing it to smash.


The man has then grabbed and pulled the victim from his vehicle and started to reverse the car. The victim managed to grab the steering wheel but the man continued to reverse the vehicle which has run over the victim’s leg before colliding with a garden wall. The man has then got out of the vehicle and stood on the victim’s other leg before running off along Cleveland Road towards Halifax Road.



The victim suffered injuries to both legs and minor injuries to his head, arms and torso during the incident. His 13-year-old son was not injured.

The suspect is described as black, aged in his 30s, tall, of muscular build, with a pointed jaw line and facial stubble. He was wearing a Bluetooth headset.

Can you spare an hour or two ?New volunteers wanted at community allotment. From sitting down sowing some seeds in our potting shed to doing some digging or helping with DIY tasks, there’s something to suit everyone. It’s a great way to learn and to meet people, or just to spend some quiet time outdoors.


If you’re interested in helping out, go along to the Sunday morning gathering to celebrate Volunteers Week 2016.


You can have a look around, join in some practical allotment activities to give it a try, ask questions, and meet other local growers.


Refreshments are provided and we have space under cover in case it rains.

There is now heavy congestion on the M62 eastbound after the accident involving a car and a lorry.

It happened between junction 21 (Milnrow) and junction 22 (Rishworth Moor), and has left lanes one and two (of four) closed.

It is thought it could take up to two hours for the lanes to be reopened.

We are getting reports of an accident on the M62 which has left two lanes closed.



It involved a car and a lorry and happened eastbound between junction 21 (Milnrow) and junction 22 (Rishworth Moor).

Lanes one and two (of four) are closed, and it’s affecting traffic from Manchester towards Leeds, with congestion already building.

It is billed as one of the toughest road marathons in the country. And it’s hardly surprising given the hilly nature of Huddersfield and its surroundings.

Webber says there have been no enquiries over the club’s top scorer for the last two seasons, and added: “We wouldn’t welcome any.” You can see more here.

But all lanes on the M1 southbound are now open after debris in the road was removed between junction 40 (Ossett / Wakefield) and junction 39 (Wakefield / Durkar). One lane had been closed and it had been affecting traffic between Wakefield and Barnsley.
