Extremely slow traffic still on the M62 westbound heading towards Rochdale, with congestion all the way back to Brighouse. Steer clear and try to find an alternative route, if possible.

Earlier westbound traffic heading towards Brighouse (due to a separate incident) however appears to be easing.

Still two lanes closed on the M62 westbound at Milnrow so expect delays if you’re heading towards Manchester this afternoon.

We also have this image of the aftermath of the vehicle fire from earlier on at Hartshead on the westbound carriage. Appears to be a black Range Rover pulling a caravan. The front of the vehicle has been totally desolated by the fire and traffic is slow on the approach.

Afternoon everyone. More motorway misery if you’re travelling south or back up north with several delays on the M1 this afternoon.

Reports of one lane blocked due to broken down vehicle on M1 Southbound at J41 A650 (Carrgate), although traffic is coping well.

There are also reports of one lane blocked due to broken down vehicle on M1 Northbound between J36 A61 (Birdwell / Sheffield North) and J37 A628 (Barnsley / Dodworth).

We’re hearing that two Huddersfield residents are among the England fans jailed for being involved in the violence over the past few days.

One is believed to be 20-year-old Alexander Booth, who was accused of throwing a plastic bottle at the police during the trouble in Marseille.

Details of the other are pending.

This is the first image of the fire on the M62 near Hartshead. This is what caused part of the delays westbound, adding to the problems west of Huddersfield following an oil spillage and collision.

If you’re stuck on the M62 westbound it’s going to be a while longer I’m afraid.

It’s not a good day to be driving to Manchester. In addition to the incident just west of Huddersfield there is now a problem with a vehicle on fire near Hartshead services. On top of that there were delays on the M60 after a hearse broke down, which was towed very slowly to a nearby church!

Huddersfield Giants have confirmed injured player Ronan Costello is still in a critical condition. The youngster was hurt in an U19s game at the weekend.

More on overturned truck on M62

A pickup truck carrying scrap overturned following a collision with a Vauxhall Vectra on the M62.

The accident happened on the westbound carriageway between junctions 22 and 21 at around noon.

The Toyota Hilux’s load, thought to include nails, spilled across two lanes.

The driver of the Hilux was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police are currently waiting for vehicles to recover the truck and sweep debris from the carriageway.

A GP practice with two surgeries has been placed in special measures after receiving inadequate ratings from a Government watchdog.

Lepton and Kirkheaton Surgeries, both run by Dr Saravanan Mani, are under supervision of the local health authority after they received ‘inadequate’ ratings in a Care Quality Commission report.

The surgeries in Highgate Lane, Lepton, and Heaton Moor Road, Kirkheaton, were given inadequate – the lowest – ratings for safety, effectiveness and management.

One lane closed and slow traffic due to oil spillage on M62 Westbound around J20 A627(M) Rochdale.
Lane three (of three) closed.

Affecting traffic from Huddersfield towards Manchester.

Two lanes closed, queuing traffic and delays due to earlier accident on M62 Westbound between J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) and J21 A640 (Milnrow).

Lanes one and two (of three) closed.

Reports suggest that there was a rolling road block for some time.

Affecting traffic from Huddersfield towards Rochdale.

Police are currently dealing with an incident in Leeds city centre where a man has climbed a lamppost and is refusing to come down.

Officers were called to the incident in Bishopgate Street at 9.10am this morning.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place.

Inspector Richard Clarke said: “The safety of the man involved is our priority and we will be continuing to to everything we can to ensure his safe removal.

“This incident is on a main route through the city centre and is clearly causing significant disruption to traffic. We would advise people to plan their journeys accordingly.

“Specially-trained officers are speaking to the man and we hope to bring this incident to a safe conclusion as soon as possible.”

Friends and fans of Huddersfield Giants Academy player Ronan Costello have urged him to ‘fight on’ after his critical injury during a match on Saturday.

The 18-year-old, a player for the Under-19 side, is fighting for his life at Leeds General Infirmary after he was hurt during a match against Salford City Reds at the Dram Centre in Rawthorpe on Saturday.

It is thought Ronan sustained a serious head or neck injury in what was believed to be a routine challenge. He was said to be in a “critical” condition.

West Yorkshire Police has seen a 33 per cent increase in 999 domestic abuse calls following on from England’s first match at the weekend in the Euro 2016 tournament.

A total of 3,606 calls including 999 and 101 calls were received between 8pm and 3am on Saturday night when England drew against Russia in Marseille – which is around 200 calls up from last Saturday night.
