Music, food and dance from Eastern countries came to Huddersfield for a special event.

Huddersfield University students organised a Spring Festival which featured a display of seven cultures.

The Spring Festival is more commonly known as Chinese New Year, but its significance spreads through many Eastern countries.

University students from China, Malaysia, Burma, Vietnam, Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong brought parts of their own culture together for the event.

Alan Tobi, International E-Marketing and Publications Officer, said: “All students brought something of their own culture to the festival, so there was food, dance, music, fashion and performances.

“We invited British students to come along and it was a great engagement event, people could see the unique differences between the different cultures.”

It culminated in a performance at St Paul’s Hall and among the displays on show was a unique bamboo hat dance from Vietnam students while Chinese students showcased a contortionist style performance.

Huddersfield University, recently named the University of the Year, has around 25,000 students – 1,000 of them international from 120 countries.

The university has a China office in Beijing and a Vietnamese office operating in Hanoi to support international student recruitment from those countries that contribute to the cultural diversity of students on campus at Huddersfield.
