They came in their hundreds to see their rugby league heroes and take a look behind the scenes at Huddersfield Giants.

The 2013 Super League Leaders’ Shield winners opened their John Smith’s Stadium doors to young and old supporters alike so they could spend a day at the Giants’ ‘home’ – and they loved it!

As well as getting the chance to see their favourite Super League players the fans were able to have their photograph taken with the League Leaders’ Shield, Danny Brough’s Man of Steel trophy and Paul Anderson’s Super League Coach of the Year award.

They were also able to see inside the stadium changing rooms, sit in the dugouts, visit the stadium control tower and step on board the Giants’ official team bus.

To round off the day the younger fans received a free Christmas selection box.

All this made sure it was an Open Day the supporters will never forget.

“It was a great day,” said Giants marketing chief James Brammer.

“The fans turned up in big numbers and they all seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

“Because there were so many activities taking place all around the stadium it was impossible to say exactly how many fans we welcomed here.

“But it was certainly hundreds and hundreds and possibly the biggest turn-out we’ve had for this event.”

The largest gathering of supporters was in the stadium’s main Revell Ward Suite where they could meets the Giants stars, have their picture taken with them and get their autographs.

And head coach Paul Anderson knows how much the Open Day means to the squad.

“Our supporters are obviously the lifeblood of the club,” he said.

“Without them there’s no us – the Huddersfield Giants team.

“So this event is very important for everyone. It’s a chance for the players to give up some of their time to show how much we appreciate the support the fans give us.

“And when the fans turn up in good numbers like they did on this occasion it gives the players a tremendous boost.

“The players are being worked incredibly hard as we prepare to begin the defence of our League Leaders’ Shield at Wigan early next year (Friday, February 7), so they really appreciated this weekend’s massive support”.
