Leeds Bradford Airport has been evacuated amid a security alert according to reports.

Several passengers tweeted that there were no flights in or out of the airport shortly after 9:30pm.

One said they were sat at Dublin airport and being told they could not fly in.

Security staff tell witness they do not believe it is a bomb

Witness and photographer Joe Burke, 18, from Horsforth, told the Examiner: “I live about five minutes from the airport. I’d just finished work and walked in and a family member told me that there was an incident going on at the airport. I went up there.

“Security staff were turning people away about 100m from the entrance.

“I could not see any police officers but I could see police vans.One security staff member said they believe it is not a bomb and is just a suspicious package.”

He said there are still no planes taking off or landing.

Vicky Myers said the alert has left her waiting to take off at Dublin airport.

She said: ‘I am currently sat on the runway. Our flight was supposed to leave at 8.55 but we are still sat here.

‘All we have been told by the crew is that Leeds Bradford airport is closed and we are waiting to find out more.’
