A Kirkheaton teenager has secured a place for a month-long volunteering project in India.

Georgina Antill, 15, applied for Projects Abroad where she will be staying with a host family and volunteer at a local school or orphanage.

She will be based in the southern region of Tamil Nadu and her work will focus around care in the community.

“This is a big challenge for me personally”, says Georgina.

“I really hope my trip is a big success.

“I had researched volunteering projects online and chose India as I had heard from a few people who had been this summer who really enjoyed it.”

Georgina, a pupil at King James’s Grammar School, Almondbury is currently studying for her GCSEs.

She will head off to India in the summer after her exams.

She plans to fundraise for her trip which could count towards volunteering for The Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Peter Slowe, Director of Projects Abroad, said: “We are really pleased Georgina is doing this.

“India destination are looking forward very much to meeting her – and they definitely want her to bring some pictures of Huddersfield with her.
