Cricketers were bowled over in celebrating their club’s 150th birthday.

Rastrick Cricket Club marks its 150 years and yesterday juniors, former players and county professionals took to the cricket field for a game.

The celebrations got underway at the Clough Lane club with the under-13s playing.

At midday yesterday some of the club’s former members returned to join current members for a sporting game.

Then it was fun for all the family with a friendly game of rounders.

And then an exhibition match took place with some county players forming two elite teams for a showcase T20 match.

Player and committee member Jason Middleton said: “It’s amazing we’re 150. It’s the same year of Yorkshire Cricket Club’s 150th so it shows how long the club has been around.”

Dawn Moran is the club’s chairman and watched as the exhibition matches took place.

Cricketers from clubs including Kirkburton, Lightcliffe, Elland, Honley and Sheffield Collegiate joined the game.

The day was supported by the Community Games legacy of the London 2012 Olympics.

The club currently has 240 members including many junior members and they’re open for new people to join.
