A guest house on the outskirts of Huddersfield has been judged the best in West Yorkshire.

Ackroyd House was named Top Bed and Breakfast/Guest House in West Yorkshire by guests posting their views on Trip Advisor.

All 66 postings on the travel website rate the establishment at Top O’ Th’Bank in Thurstonland as “excellent”.

The B&B run by couple Jayne and Andrew Thackray was praised for the standard of its rooms, the quality of its breakfasts and for being friendly and welcoming.

The house has been the Thackrays’ home for 29 years and has also operated as a guest house for the past seven years.

The Ackroyd House website has had hits from people in 78 countries, Guests staying there have included people from Europe, Canada, the USA and New Zealand.

Said Andrew: “If you stay in a B&B, you are a guest, not just a room number. We sit and talk to our guests and we will go the extra mile for them.”

Commenting on its Trip Advisor success, he said: “With competition from areas such as Ilkley, Haworth, Wetherby, Wakefield, Hebden Bridge and Shipley to name but a few, we feel that this is a great boost for tourism in the local area.

“We are centrally located for a lot of tourist attractions.

“The Holme Valley countryside, local eateries and ‘things to do’ have all received fantastic comments on our many reviews”.
