ANOTHER weekend and another near-tragedy on one road in Huddersfield.

How sad it is that yet again, people have been badly injured on a stretch of Meltham Road, running between Lockwood and Armitage Bridge.

The weekend crash involving two taxis, which put four people in hospital, was the fourth bad accident in less than three months.

And there have been other serious incidents along that same stretch over previous months, including the tragic death of a teenager.

Kirklees Council says it has plans to bring in new road markings and signs. But they have been saying that for months.

Surely they became a priority when people were badly injured months ago. How long does it take for a gang of council workmen to fix new warning signs and to paint markings on roads?

Residents have long called for action and that is exactly what the council must deliver.

But they must deliver sooner rather than later.
