ANDY BOOTH has been Huddersfield's favourite sporting icon for almost two decades.

His career as a professional footballer has earned him England representative honours and taken him to the highest level of the game in this country.

Booth has always, however, remained fiercely loyal to his hometown club and, in two spells wearing the famous blue and white stripes, has endeared himself to supporters of all generations.

He has played with pride and passion, commitment and courage and has been loved by those who pay to watch because he has unstintingly given 100% for the team cause.

In addition, he has represented the club and the community with dignity and humility, and it's noticeable as he ends his playing career in tomorrow's match at Leyton Orient that everyone paying tribute to him doesn't have a bad word to say.

That's a measure of his character and honesty and football as a whole could do with more such role models.

Well done Andy, we wish you a long and happy retirement . . . and thanks for many wonderful memories.
