AFTER 55 years of working, no-one would blame Geoff Phillips for wanting to put his feet up.

But the Almondbury baker is an inspiration to us all – because not only has he dedicated his life to working, but he’d carry on if he could – even at the age of 75.

Mr Baker got his first job aged 19 – after completing his National Service with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.

And despite 55 years of 4.30am starts, Mr Phillips said he could have carried on for a few more years.

His colleagues at P Newsome’s in Kirkburton describe him as a pillar of the community and cannot recall him ever taking a day off sick, which says a lot about the dedication and work ethic of Mr Phillips.

I’m sure many of his loyal customers will be sad to see him go, but Mr Phillips deserves a well-earned rest.
