It’s prison for kids

A FASCINATING insight into the world of prison will be given to King James’s pupils on July 3.

Prison! Me! No Way! is a joint enterprise between the Almondbury school and the No Way Trust.

The day is an opportunity for the whole of Year 7 to take part in a number of dedicated sessions in place of their regular timetable.

The sessions include various workshops including: an anti-social behaviour re-enactment, a presentation using the PMNY cell van; a Luton box van made into a replica prison cell and a Q and A session on prison life with someone who has first-hand experience.

The No Way Trust is a national educational charity which was set up in 1995 by prison officers.

Their core aim is “to raise the awareness among young people about the causes, consequences and penalties of crime, and the effects of antisocial behaviour.”

The PMNY enrichment day has run for several years now at King James’s School and has been hugely popular with both the staff and pupils.

Cara Edmondson, ICT teacher and PMNW co-ordinator told parents: “I hope that your child will enjoy the day and come away with an increased awareness of the causes, consequences and penalties of crime.”
