Charity provides companionship to the lonely

Almondbury Ladies Choir present a cheque for £940 to Janet Turner Shaw from the charity Friends to Friends.

Almondbury Ladies Choir raised £940 for local charity Friend to Friend over Christmas by holding a charity concert and singing carols in supermarkets.

On Monday, March 17, the choir’s chairman Linda Barker presented a cheque to Janet Turner Shaw.

Friend to Friend is based in south Kirklees. Its aim is to work with older people to enable them to improve their quality of life, combat loneliness and reduce isolation.

Friend to Friend exists to provide much-needed companionship, activities to stimulate the mind and exercise groups to stay active. The majority of their members are over 70 years of age, with a range of needs.

The choir are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year and are holding a concert on Saturday, May 17, at Hall Bower Chapel to mark the occasion.

They rehearse on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Hall Bower Chapel and any ladies who may be interested in joining them can get more information by contacting Cath Burrow on 01484 321593 or email almondburyladies.choir@ntlworld.com.
