IN CONTINUING tough times for the economy it was great last night to hear good news after good news story.

In Huddersfield it seems there is much to applaud as those who attended the glittering 2012 Examiner Business Awards at the John Smith Stadium discovered.

They applauded success story after success story as winners in 10 fiercely contested categories stepped up to receive their awards.

Innovation, commitment to the area, to training and to local workforces as well as development initiatives in terms of environmental issues, in staffing and in extending overseas market were all flagged up.

All delivered success for individual businesses and bucked the trend that seems to suggest that the country is still trying to find its way out of economic slowdown.

No-one could embody better the way in which entrepreneurial leadership has galvanised so many local companies and helped them to succeed in challenging times than Nick Brown, chairman of fleet performance improvement specialist, FMG who won the night’s top award, Business Person of the Year.

We salute him and all those other businesses who help to prove to the wider community that Huddersfield is a great place in which to do business.
