THE National Farmers’ Union has long been propelling the view that badgers spread TB to cattle. However, recent findings, commissioned by the Government, show the route of infection lies much more with cattle than badgers.

Experts took 10 years to carry out their study yet their conclusion has been rejected in favour of a mass cull.

The RSPCA is launching a campaign telling the Government to ‘back off badgers’, as we report in today’s Examiner.

Their aim is to get 25,000 names on their petition.

We hope there is no difficulty in persuading people to sign.

For the badger – with its distinctive black and white markings – is a potent and ancient symbol of Britain.

And also, isn’t it a touch arrogant to commission an inquiry by top scientists and then know better than them?

Why can’t we just accept what they say?
