Under 15 Division1
Westend 1 Upperthong Tigers 2
THE Tigers were back on league duty following a successful Easter tour of Holland.
They finished third in the group, despite playing against under 16s , and won the fair play trophy for the second consecutive season.
Conditions at Salendine Nook were far from ideal for this Friday evening kick off, with a strong wind not helping their style of play.
The game was only five minutes old when Tiplady’s effort beat the keeper but was held up on the line by the strong wind.
After scrappy play, the deadlock was broken on 28 minutes. A ball through the middle was converted by Tiplady for his 35th goal of the season.
It looked good for the Tigers with the wind at their backs in the second half, but mid-table Westend were in no mood to give up without a fight. They pressurised the visitors into mistakes and never let them settle. Keeper Atkinson pulled off a couple of good saves and had to be alert to the through ball on the break.
On 52 minutes Westend equalised when their skilful left winger wound his way through the defence and slotted into the bottom corner.
Tigers were finding the going difficult and there was little to be seen of the passing game which has served them so well this season, while cohesion between defence, midfield and attack was lacking.
Just as it looked like stalemate, Tiplady controlled a cross from the right and sweetly volleyed in with his left foot to give the Tigers the three points.
Tigers squad: Atkinson, Collier, Berry, Kaye, Rowan Wilson Sewell, Killock Halton Marshall, Tiplady Dyson, Heald.
