Children got advice of top gardening experts about planting flowers.
The year one children at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary in Brighouse visited Kershaw Garden Centre to learn more about horticulture.
Their visit is part of the new curriculum and they planted a sunflower to see who could grow the tallest.
They spent the afternoon hunting out different sort of plants and drawing pictures and took some seeds back to their school to grow.
While there the pupils also got to see a family of blackbirds which has taken up residence in a plant pot near a bookcase at Kershaws, on Halifax Road
Liz Kenny, manager said: “We have had many birds nesting in and around the plants, this is the first time that the eggs have hatched, especially in a noisy place where doors are opening and closing.”
Kershaws is celebrating 150 years this year, with a party on the weekend August 2/3 with special offers, party games, stalls, donkey rides and they will be raising money for Overgate Hospice.
