EXPANSION plans have been unveiled for a ladies and junior football team.

Brighouse Town Ladies FC and Brighouse Juniors have joined forces to get more people playing football.

And team coach Rob Mitchell wants to hear from ladies under 21 and under 16 to form part of new teams.

Town ladies will add a development team while the Juniors are developing their girls team.

Rob said: “We’re hoping to get more people involved in the sport at all levels, but girls are becoming more involved in football now than ever before.

“Social media like Facebook and Twitter has helped massively, and it’s something girls are interested in having a go at too.”

The ladies’ first team will be complemented by the development team — newer players or those building experience will train and feed into the 1st team.

Town are working with Brighouse Juniors for the Under 16 girls team, which will aim to get girls involved in the sport at youth and senior level. They’re seeking girls in year 9 or 10 at high school to get involved and gain experience on the pitch.

Rob added: “We’ve held training sessions with the 1st team and six or seven youth girls have come along and shown an interest.

“Richard Brearley of Brighouse Juniors is as keen as we are.”

The clubs are working with Calderdale College so that students can play as they learn.

Recently the Town team merged with the Kirklees Ladies team and they compete in the North East Region League and are unbeaten this season.

They train on Thursdays at Leeds Road sports complex in Huddersfield from 7pm and they play at Town’s Dual Seal Stadium stadium on St Giles Road in Brighouse.
