HUDDERSFIELD has long been praised as a textile town and now it is being recognised for its ability to reinvent its skills for a modern era.
So when Business Secretary Vince Cable came to the town yesterday, he was able to see cutting edge technology which is helping to take textiles into new markets.
The Textile Centre of Excellence at Deighton and companies such as Bradley-based Antich and Sons are at the forefront of developing new equipment and software to produce revolutionary new textile technology.
Textiles have been through a torrid time in Yorkshire as in many other areas as the minister remarked.
But in some places, the entrepreneurial spirit lives on. Huddersfield is clearly one of them and there was much for the town to be proud of yesterday as the Business Secretary was able to see.
Hopefully, the message about the area’s innovative spirit and its willingness to invest in skills and technology is one which will be spread far and wide.
