IT IS a busy road along the main route from Huddersfield into the Holme Valley.

And any measures which will help to reduce accidents on stretches such as Woodhead Road at Honley must surely be welcomed.

Anyone who has lived in the area for any length of time will know that this spectacular tree-lined stretch of road beautiful though it is, can also be a potentially dangerous one if not approached sensibly.

But since speed limits have been reduced on the road, cameras brought in and islands installed to try and resolve safety concerns, instances of accidents do appear to have been reduced.

Installation of the latest camera seems to have arisen out of discussions after a West Yorkshire Fire Service vehicle was involved in an accident in that area.

Ultimately, safety on our roads is in the hands of drivers and if cameras and amendments to speed limits are needed to reinforce that then so be it.

Much has been done to make this heavily used road as safe as it can possibly be. Now it is up to drivers to make sure that they play their part and stick to the measures that are there for a purpose. Their safety and that of others.
