I WOULD suggest, in the wake of the Tesco plans, the answer to S Wood’s question as to “where is the council going to find a large enough area in the town for another car park?” is that they won’t.

The reason they will give is that the number of people using Springwood car park is so low that another car park is not warranted. This situation has been engineered by way of the last exorbitant rise in charges. And should the numbers not fall to those on the council’s hidden agenda, stand by for another dose of the same.

This underhand procedure fits well with the council’s sharp practice clearly manifested in the charging regime at the Market Hall car park, as highlighted in the Examiner on November 8.
