AT last some good news to report – and the Examiner loves to report good news.

This time it goes right to the heart of our communities with the winners announced from the £30,000 cash giveaway from the Community Foundation For Calderdale.

The foundation had the money to give to charities and good causes across Kirklees – and you sure did respond.

More than 200 groups applied – far more than in some big cities.

The criteria was quite clear with every group having to show they had been established for more than 12 months, must be voluntary, community or a charity and not make a profit over £20,000.

They also had to be mostly run by volunteers.

So, a big thanks must go to the Community Foundation For Calderdale for securing the money for this area.

But special thanks must also go to the volunteers involved with these and all other voluntary and community groups or charities in Kirklees.

You make a difference to the quality of people’s lives.

And although you can never put a price on that, the foundation’s money sure will help.
