Nursery children were delighted when they made a new furry friend.

The youngsters at Spring Cottage Children’s Place Day Nursery were joined by seven-month-old Labrador Quincy.

The young guide dog is currently in training.

The children heard all about what Quincy’s job will entail when he looks after the blind.

His trainer also told them about his strict routine and how, after 14 months, he will go on to another trainer.

Then Quincy will use public transport and visit a variety of different locations.

Sharondeep Kaur Sandhu, who works at the nursery, said: “One of the children said: ‘He’ll be a hero then?’

“Overall, the day was great fun and both the children and Quincy thoroughly enjoyed it.”

The children also got the chance to stroke the dog and have their photos taken with him.

Spring Cottage is based at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and cares for children aged between 0 and five years.
