YET another award is being offered for companies that do business with China. Am I the only one that reads these headlines with dismay? “High tech town tour proves a hit with Chinese visitor”; “Chinese visit to uni”; “forging links with China…” Have we gone stark staring bonkers?
We have sold them industrial plant at scrap prices. We have handed our technology to them on a plate.
We buy their stuff that blandly ignores patents and is made with slave labour.
Their students are warmly welcomed to be educated in our universities, colleges of technology and private schools, enabling them to go home with all the knowledge they need to defeat the West in business and industry.
We are like a shop keeper who sells a gun to a man so that he can rob him with it. Already hundreds, maybe thousands of your readers have seen their jobs handed over to the Chinese. British and American companies can no longer compete unless they have their products made in China.
How long do you suppose it will take before the Chinese say “Hey, we have had enough of labouring for you – we will take over now thank you”. This has already happened in CCTV which was my little corner of the manufacturing scene.
We are sleepwalking towards disaster both economically and environmentally. Whilst we tut tut at owners of 4x4s the Chinese open two new coal fired power stations every week. Millions of them aspire to car ownership and all the privileges we enjoy but that the world can no longer afford.
It is time our government woke up to the real world in which we are being reduced in significance to that of a drop in a bucket both economically and environmentally as compared with the Far East.
I suppose it is a case of “if you can’t beat ’em join ’em” and it may be far too late, but I think anyone who promotes China should not be given prizes but locked up for treason.
