POLICE PATROLS IN SKELMANTHORPEWe have had reports of anti-social behaviour in the Skelmanthorpe area recently and have increased our patrols in the evenings to tackle this. Over the past few weeks we have been to see the parents of several of the young people involved in these incidents and many have been very supportive. Skelmanthorpe now has a fantastic youth club with lots of facilities for young people, as well as a skate park, so there ARE things to do other than hang about in bus shelters and outside pizza shops! We would like to say a big "thank you" to the residents who have called us to report anti-social behaviour in Skelmanthorpe - it's important that we know about it so we can do something about it, and it's vital that people don't just put up with it.

SCHOOL PARKING - HIGHBURTON & FARNLEY TYASAgain we have had several complaints about parking around the schools at Highburton and Farnley Tyas, which has been described as both "inconsiderate" and "downright dangerous". Unfortunately inconsiderate parking at school times is a widespread problem and it is usually the fault of repeat offenders who dump their cars in the same place day in, day out. Parents – please think about where you are parking and the problems it may create. The excuse that "I'm only going to be here for a minute" is just not good enough. We will be out and about at school picking up and dropping off times as much as we can, so please be considerate!

BOGUS CALLERS ADVICE SHEETWe are currently distributing a Bogus Callers Advice sheet to all libraries, post offices, health centres and elderly persons clubs in the Kirkburton and Denby Dale areas. These are designed to give older people advice about ‘bogus callers’ and ‘distraction’ burglaries. There are also telephone numbers for the major energy providers and Yorkshire Water, as these ‘bogus callers’ often pretend to be from ‘the gas board’ or ‘the water board’ in order to gain entry. If you know an elderly person who lives alone, or perhaps a vulnerable elderly couple, and would like a FREE advice sheet, please contact us at Kirkburton Police Station on 01484-436898 and we will send one out.

LOCAL PRIORITIESWe are looking to change our local priorities. We want you to let us know what you want us to deal with. Calls are now reduced and people have been dealt with. We want to change, please tell us! Our next PACT (Partners And Communities Together) meeting is at the Mirfield, Denby Dale andKirkburton Committee Public Meeting on Monday, March 28. We are also aiming to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Clayton West area, around Back Lane, The cricket field, The Royds and on Long Lane.
