A LOCAL MP is urging his constituents to sign up to a donor register.

Colne Valley’s Jason McCartney is a supporter of the Anthony Nolan Trust.

The charity saves the lives of people with blood cancer by matching them to stem-cell donors for life-saving transplants.

There are 1,600 people in the UK with leukaemia and other blood cancers waiting for a transplant.

Mr McCart ney is asking young men from his constituency to sign up to the register.

His plea comes as part of the charity’s campaign to recruit 10,000 men aged 18-30.

This is because they are the most likely age group to be chosen to donate.

The MP has supported the charity since being inspired by campaigning Examiner journalist Adrian Sudbury.

Adrian, who died from leukaemia, fought to get young people educated about blood and bone marrow donation.
