Festive cheer will reach those most in need this Christmas, thanks to a new shoe box appeal set up by Taylor Funeral Home.
Owners and couple Tony and Helen Dalton are looking for as many donations as possible for their special seasonal parcels, which will be given to the Huddersfield Mission as gifts for users of their cafe who are homeless or living in poverty.
The first year that they have joined the gift box campaign, they decided to take part to make it easier for Colne Valley residents to donate some much-appreciated goods by dropping them off at their premises.
Presents of toiletries including tooth paste, shampoo, shower gels, deodorant, shaving foam, warm clothing such as hats and scarfs, sweets and any other gift items will be welcomed by the team, which will then be boxed up and given out by Mission staff on Christmas Day.
Commenting on why they decided to help out, Helen, said: “One of the main reasons which drew us towards this event is the Huddersfield Mission is a local registered charity, which organises a well-meaning appeal for Huddersfield people in need.
“We as a long established local business have always liked to support were possible local charity events and we felt the Funeral Home would be an ideal place for people to drop off gifts.
“They’ll be given out on Christmas day when the Huddersfield Mission put on a dinner for those people in need.”
Anyone who has a gift that they would like to donate can drop it off at Taylor Funeral Home, The Mount, 2 Cowlersley Lane, Cowlersley in between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday before December 12.
Huddersfield Mission cafe provides affordable hot and cold food every day of the week to those in need as well as giving out helpful advice and putting on activities.
