GOLCAR

The Rev Canon Stephen Henry welcomed the congregation and led the “Bible Sunday” Parish Communion service at St John’s Church. In his address Canon Stephen spoke about his training in the ministry and the importance of the Bibles and Sunday School prizes he had been given. Readings were given by Margaret Henry and Karen Locke. Sylvia Hanson led the prayers and Ann Norton was the organist. Sunday Club and Sunday Youth had talked about not being greedy by caring and sharing with others and had made a big poster. At a welcome service in the afternoon the Rev Harry Gwynett baptised Niamh Jessica Ellin, Cherrie Faye Missin and Richard Graham Ellin. At 5pm a Modern Service, Synergy was held at St John’s. The Rev Harry welcomed the music group Celebration Halifax as guests and afterwards refreshments were served in the community room.

Over £750.00 was raised at the Coffee Day held in Holmfirth by Members of Providence Methodist Church, Golcar.

Mr David Brook led the service at Providence Methodist on Sunday. Mrs C Heeley welcomed the congregation and readings were given by Mrs G. Iredale & Mrs Heeley. Mrs M Israel was the organist. Fellowship continued in the schoolroom afterwards.

MARSDEN

A service of Sung Eucharist was held on Sunday at St. Bartholomew's, led by the vicar, the Rev Geoff Garside, who preached the sermon. The Gospel from Mark 10 v46-end was read by Geoffrey Holroyd. The readings from Jeremiah 31 v7-9 and Hebrews 7 v23-end were by Jean Pennington. Prayers were offered by David Corps. The organist was John Wilson. Sideswomen were Mary Horn, Joan Ladbrooke and Jean Pennington. Coffee was served by Cynthia Batley, Noreen Carr and Audrey Armitage. Next Sunday - All Saints Day. Family Service and Baptism at 10-00am followed by Holy Communion. 4-00pm All Souls Service. Sunday 11th November 9-30am Sung Eucharist. 10-55am Service at the Cenotaph in the Park followed by a Service in Church.

The Rev David Bidnell led worship on Sunday morning at the United Church. The theme of his address was The Parable of the Trees. Bible readings were given by John Dewdney and Ruth Sheldrake. Marjory Boothroyd was the organist. The congregation was invited to a buffet lunch afterwards in celebration of Peter Hirst’s 80th birthday and music was provided by Marsden Junior Band.

MILNSBRIDGE

The Milnsbridge Christadelphian's coffee morning Bible Reading Group met last Tuesday at 10.30am. At the Bible class last Wednesday evening, James Walker led the meeting, and the visiting speaker, Darren Guy, from Halifax Balmoral, gave a talk on Gideon. The Sunday services were led by James Walker, with David Turner playing the organ. David Lister from Sutton Coldfield was the speaker for the day. ‘Is baptism necessary?’ was his subject for the evening Bible talk. The meetings planned for the coming week are that the Sister`s class will meet this evening, with a talk on ‘Jonathon and Saul’. Tomorrow at 7.30pm the Bible class subject will be ‘James and John – Sons of Thunder’. This Sunday there will be a church tea. The evening Bible talk starting at 6pm will be ‘10 Good Reasons to Reject Evolution.’ Anyone wishing to learn more about Bible teachings is welcome to attend any of the group’s meetings, where they will be made welcome.

PARKWOOD

A pleasant afternoon meeting was held at Parkwood Methodist Church, guest speaker was Marion Lloyd on family life on a farm in the 30s and 40s. In the chair was Jean Johnson, the pianist was Nora Beaumont, refreshments were by Barbara Beevers and Betty Sykes and the secretary was Freda Lloyd. A Messy Church afternoon was held on Saturday at Parkwood Methodist Church. Leaders were Jez Hackett and Niomi Sharp assisted by ladies of the church with games and refreshments, hot dogs, salad and ice cream. Marion Lloyd welcomed the congregation to Parkwood Methodist Church on Sunday morning. Guest preacher was Mr Brian Lockwood, Bible reader was Gill Ritchie and pianist was Nora Beaumont. Coffee was served after the service by ladies of the church.

SLAITHWAITE

Slaithwaite God Companions was introduced by Wendy Blackburn and the speaker was craftswoman Margaret Watson, showing us and showing us her decorated eggs, ribbon cards , handmade boxes and other crafts. Most were for sale and she was thanked by Wendy.

St James Parish Church Holy Communion service was led by the Rev Ron Townsend, assisted by Raymond Denton. The lesson was from Hebrews chapter 7 verse 22, The Great High Priest, and l St Mark Chapter 10 from verse 46, Jesus Heals the Blind. The address was Christ takes away our sins. These were all given by the Rev Robin and the prayers led by Raymond. The organist was Alvi Whitehead.
