GOLCAR

Mrs C Heely welcomed and introduced Mrs L Bishop who led the Sunday Morning Family service at Providence Methodist Church, Golcar. The theme was ‘Jobe, Caring for Gods creation’. Mr A Marchington mimed the story. Mrs M Israel played the organ. Junior Church leaders served refreshments afterwards in the schoolroom.

The Rev Canon Martyn Crompton led the parish communion service at St John’s Church. A reading from Deuteronomy chapter 4 about obedience was given by Margaret Laycock and Betty Taylor read from James chapter 1 about listening and doing God’s will. Martyn gave the gospel reading from Mark 7 and based his address on the three readings. Prayers were read by Richard Lodge and Ann Norton was the organist. Sunday Club and Sunday Youth, who were welcomed back after the summer break, followed the them of the morning by making large ears to listen to the teachings of Jesus and talked about how they could be helpful to others. A Taize service at 6.30pm was led by Kathryn Sykes. The pianist was Ann Norton. Afterwards refreshments were served in the community room.

LINTHWAITE

The Rev Jo Archer-Siddall led the Annual Covenant Service at Linthwaite Methodist Church. Ian Baxter read from Jeremiah ‘A New Covenant,’ and Lesley Baxter read from Romans ‘A Life in God’s Service.’ At the Covenant Service Methodists renew the promise made when they became members, and in her sermon Rev Jo spoke about ‘Choices’.

MARSDEN

Morning worship at Marsden United Church on Sunday morning was led by the Rev Deborah Hopkinson, it was a celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Formation of the Church in 1967 with the uniting of the former Marsden methodist and Marsden congregational churches. The service took the form of the annual covenant service which included Holy Communion. There were two bible readings by Carl Butters. After the service coffee and tea were served by Joyce Firth and Barry Biltcliffe.

This Saturday, September 8, the annual craft fair will be held at the United Church from 10am-3pm. Many craft stalls and refreshments inc cooked lunches will be served.

A Family Service was held at St Bartholomew's Church, Marsden, on Sunday led by the Worship Team. This was followed by Holy Communion led by the vicar, the Rev Geoff Garside. Alison Fisher gave an illustrated talk for the children about the Christian Festival of Greenbelt they had attended over the Bank Holiday weekend. This is held at Cheltenham Racecourse. The Rev Alison spoke about what we do in God's Kingdom here on earth. David Fisher spoke about some of the events and talks held at the Festival and how they could influence us all in our lives. The first reading from James 1 v17-27 was by Dennis Brook. David Corps gave the second reading from Mark 7.

Prayers were offered by Alison Gibson. Simon Crook was the organist. Sideswomen were Alison Gibson and Jean Pennington. Coffee was served by Christine Garside and Jenny Mitchell.

A church family picnic due to be held at Spa Fields, Slaithwaite was held in the Parochial hall due to the inclement weather.

The service in church today at 9-30am and Bible Study tomorrow at 2pm at the Vicarage. Please bring your own Bible. Everyone welcome. This Saturday and Sunday are Heritage Days. The church will be open for this national event – on Saturday from 10am to 4pm and the Sunday service is at 9-30am and it will then be open for visitors. Refreshments will be served in the hall on both days.

MILNSBRIDGE

At the Milnsbridge Christadelphian's, the coffee morning reading group met on Tuesday , to read & discuss the Bible readings allocated for the day. This was led by David McEvoy. On Wednesday evening at the Bible class, Michael Grosvenor from Halifax Salterhebble spoke on ‘Sodom and Gomorrah.’ The Sunday services were led by Pete Barrett. Robert Adams from Glenfield Leicester was the guest speaker for the day. His subject at the evening lecture was “ The wonder of Bible prophecy.” Before the meeting there was a church tea – which was enjoyed by all. The meetings planned for the coming week are; at the Bible class on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm , the subject will be “Behold I send you Elijah the prophet.” On Sunday 9th September at 6pm the subject will be “The race of your life.”

PARKWOOD

Marion Lloyd welcomed the congregation to Parkwood Methodist church on Sunday morning. A service of thanksgiving was arranged by the worship leaders Freda Lloyd, Sandra McSweeney, Barbara Rushforth and Robin Whitham. Visual aids by Joe Lloyd, organist Christine Walker and steward was Anne Ivy. Coffee was served after the service by Enid Coulson and Margaret Noble.

A drop in lunch will be held at Parkwood Methodist Church tomorrow at 12.30pm.

SLAITHWAITE

Slaithwaite Good Companions welcomed by Wendy Blackburn, our speaker was Paul Webley, talking about one of his life’s hobbies - the art of beekeeping. He also showed us slides. He was thanked by Wendy for an interesting afternoon.

St James Parish Church Family Service led by Rev Robin Townsend, the lesson from James Chapter 1 vs 17-27 “Hearing and doing” was read by Patricia Parkinson. The address “committing our lives to Christ” was given by Rev Robin and he also led the prayers. The pianist was Rodney Pearson. After the coffee break a short service of Holy Communion was celebrated by Rev Robin assisted by Raymond Denton.

Mrs Diane Smith of Marsden was a welcome return speaker at Women’s Fellowship on Tuesday afternoon. She was introduced by Pauline Gee who led prayers and read from the Friendship book. Thanks were expressed to Diane for her thought on how we should all try and follow Christ’s teaching in our daily lives.

Mr Steve Bagsaw of Huddersfield led Sunday morning worship at the Methodist Church and read from Mark 27 and James 1, an address on the healing of Naanaanan from his leprosy was followed by a sketch of the men who were hired to work in the vineyard at different intervals but were all paid the same, and this was the theme of his sermon. Rachel Wybrew accompanied the hymns on the violin.
