LINTHWAITE

Rev Jo Archer-Siddall led morning worship at Linthwaite Methodist Church using her continuing theme on the Beatitudes. Using the verse ‘Blessed are the Merciful for they will receive mercy,’ Rev Jo spoke about an American methodist minister – Asa Jennings – who by showing mercy to all people irrespective of creed or colour, was the man who in the 1920s changed Turkey and Greece forever. Lesley Baxter read from II Kings 7 v 3-11 ‘The Siege lifted.’

Members of the Junior Church celebrated the 200th year of Sunday schools at Linthwaite Methodist Church with a day out at Lightwater Valley theme park, which was partially funded by a donation from the Community Spirit Charity Shop in Slaithwaite.

Next Sunday at 9.30am Rev Jo Archer-Siddall will lead her final act of Worship at Linthwaite Methodist Church before she leaves to continue her ministry in the Rotherham area. – a warm welcome is extended to everyone who’s life has been touched by Jo’s work.

MARSDEN

Mr David Brook led worship at the United Church on Sunday morning and in his sermon he spoke on Beattitudes. Bible readings were given by John Dewdney and Marjorie Boothroyd, who also played the organ. Refreshments afterwards were served by Jean Dewdney and Ruth Sheldrake.

St. Bartholomew's held a service of Sung Eucharist on Sunday, led by the vicar, the Rev. Geoff Garside, who also preached the sermon about Prayer. The readings from Hosea 1 v 2-10 and Colossians 1 v 15-28 were read by Carolyn Hansom. The Gospel from Luke 10 v 38-42 was by Geoffrey Holroyd, who also offered prayers of intercession. Jon Robinson was the organist. The Junior Church activities in the Hall were about being Good Neighbours and came into church to enact a short drama telling the story of the Good Samaritan. Sidespersons were Bunny Lonnen and Jean Pennington. Coffee was served by Christine Garside and Susan Everill. Today (Tuesday) a service of Holy Communion will be held in the Lady Chapel at 9-30am. Next Sunday Family Service is at 10-00am.

Saturday 3rd August a Table Top Sale will be held in the Church Hall from 10-00am - 2-00pm. Refreshments available.

PARKWOOD

A garden party was held at the home of Freda and Joe Lloyd on Saturday and raised £226 for Parkwood Methodist Church funds.

Marion Lloyd welcomed the congregation to Parkwood Methodist Church on Sunday morning. Preacher was Mr John Oldham, assisted by church members. Organist was Mr John Auton. Coffee was served after the service by ladies of church.

MILNSBRIDGE

At the Milnsbridge Christadelphians, the Bible class on Wednesday evening was led by Jez Kirby. “ The life is in the blood,” was the talk given by Devon Walker. The Sunday services were taken by David McEvoy. The afternoon talk was given by Andrew Wilkinson. The speaker at the evening talk was Kevin Charlesworth whose subject was “ Believing is seeing.” The arrangements planned for the coming week are that the coffee morning Bible reading group will meet on Tuesday morning. The Bible class on Wednesday will start at 7.30pm & the subject title is “The fear of the Lord.” At 6pm on Sunday August 4th there will be a talk by Kevin Waterhouse – “John`s gospel message to you.” Visitors are always very welcome to come along to our meetings and services.

SLAITHWAITE

The service at the Methodist Church was again led by the Rev Jo Archer-Siddall in the fourth of her five services based on the Beatitudes and this week it was verse 7 Blessed are the Merciful. Jenny Pekins read from 2 Kings chapter 7, the Passage named the siege lifted. Next Week the Rev Jo will be preaching her final service before leaving the district. The organist was Roger Mitchell.

St James Parish Church Holy Communion service led by Cannon Martyn Crompton, assisted by Raymond Denton, the Holy Gospel from Luke chapter 11 vs 1-13 “Jesus Teaching on Prayer” was read by Canon Martyn and his address was “Lord Teach us to Pray and help us to be like you”. He also led the prayers and celebrated the Eucharist. The organist was Alvy Whitehead. After the coffee break sherry and cake was served to celebrate the special birthday of Margaret Ingham, a much loved member of our church and the Mothers Union.
